Tanuj Virwani and Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit has sparked debate over her demands for a fixed schedule and high fee, which clashed with the film’s budget. As the controversy grows, Tanuj Virwani has come in support of the actress and has stressed the need for fair work conditions, especially for new mothers balancing career and family.

Tanuj Virwani On Deepika Padukone’s 8-Hour Shift Demand

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Tanuj emphasized the importance of recognizing and accommodating such needs, especially when balancing personal responsibilities alongside professional commitments. He said, “I did read about it and I think she is well within her rights especially since she is a new mother. So obviously her child will be requiring her a lot of her time and that’s something I’ve noticed even with my own wife because we have an 8-month-old baby girl.”

Furthermore, he stated that the rules should be the same for actors and crew members to have a work-life balance and added, “I personally feel the rules should be the same for actors, for technicians, for everyone, and I feel 12-hour shifts including hair, makeup, and your lunch break or your dinner break is healthy provided you know there is at least one day every week where it is an off you know also I feel that there must be certain concessions that are made. It is not just how many hours are shooting it is like what is the downtime between 2 shifts because many times you are shooting far away from home. So you know you have to take commute time also into the into the entire equation.”

“This is something that I have tried and done for myself, but it would be nice if it was an industry standard and if the unions were real stronger and supportive in these aspects”, he concluded.

About Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga Controversy

According to reports, Deepika Padukone first agreed to star in Spirit because she was intrigued to the film’s gripping plot and the nuanced nature of her role. But later, things changed, and she was forced to leave the project.

Deepika also requested a fee of Rs 40 crore, while the makers had a budget of Rs 20 crore. She also sought a fixed shooting schedule to better manage her professional commitments alongside her personal life. However, her demands were not accepted by the producers and directors, leading to a disagreement. Deepika Padukone was also asked to learn Telugu for the role. Considering all these factors, she decided to exit the film.

Spirit marks the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Prabhas and Triptii Dimri. It would be her second collaboration with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, producer Bhushan Kumar, and Pranay Reddy Vanga, after the success of Animal. Prabhas will be seen in the role of a police officer. The film is currently in pre-production.
