Radhika Vidyasagar, currently known for her portrayal of Renuka in Udne Ki Aasha and several acclaimed Marathi serials, has always been more than just an actor. Radhika understands the power and responsibility of media beyond its entertainment value. In a recent conversation, she shared her perspective on how the entertainment industry can contribute to spreading awareness about compassion towards animals.
Radhika Vidyasagar Advocates For Animal Welfare Through The Power Of TV
Reflecting on her academic background, Radhika said to Bollywood Bubble, “When I was doing my master’s in communication studies, we were time and again told that television is all about infotainment, that is, information plus entertainment. It’s not only for entertainment.” She emphasises that television and film have the power to influence masses deeply and that the industry should harness this influence to address important social issues, including animal welfare.
Speaking passionately about the cause, she says, “I very strongly feel that entertainment or TV has a very important role to play regarding animals, regarding pets, regarding dogs. There should be strict punishment against cruelty towards animals and abandonment of pets.”
Radhika believes that awareness campaigns, narratives, and on-screen storytelling can become powerful tools for empathy. She says, “Television is a strong medium through which any information can be reached by the masses; it influences people and makes a strong impact.”
For her, media isn’t just a mirror to society but a medium that can inspire kindness, shape values, and bring change. With actors like Radhika using their voice for causes beyond the screen, the line between entertainment and empathy continues to blur, in the best way possible.
