Mani Rathnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan is one of the most awaited releases of 2022. The period drama is said to be a potential game-changer for the Tamil film industry. The first part of the two-film franchise is all geared up for a grand release on September 30. Reportedly the OTT rights of the film have been sold at a whopping price.

As per recent reports, apparently, the digital streaming rights of Ponniyin Selvan (parts 1 and 2) have been sold to Amazon Prime Video for a whopping price.

The two-part franchise of the film has been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore, making it one of Lyca’s biggest projects to date. Apparently, the digital streaming rights of Ponniyin Selvan have been sold for a mammoth sum of Rs 125 crore. The satellite rights have also been sold for a massive price to Sun TV.

Recently, the trailer and audio launch of Ponniyin Selvan took place at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth attended the event.

The movie is based on a literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The story is all about the history of Cholas. Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, and Prakash Raj will be seen in pivotal roles. The music of the period drama has been scored by AR Rahman.

Ponniyin Selvan is produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banners, respectively. It is set to become the first Tamil movie to release in IMAX when it hits the screens on September 30.
