Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo REVIEW:

NOTE: The Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo review is based on first and second episodes only.

If you’re under the impression of a typical saas bahu drama, then think twice because Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is going to leave you surprised. The series of 8 episodes is about 4 women who are running a narcotics business under everyone’s noses. They are badass, feisty and moreover, they are the queens of the town. They are situated in a place in Rajasthan where they produce their own drug ‘Flamingo’ in a factory inside their own house and supply it internationally.

Saviriti aka Rani Ba (Dimple Kapadia) is a drug lord who operates her business from her own Haveli along with a bunch of women and her babus. While she leads the game, her daughter-in-laws Bijlee (Isha Talwar) and Kajal (Angira Dhar) take care of the business. Along with them, the triumph card is Shanta (Radhika Madan) as she is the one who knows the formula for making Flamingo. They all work remotely but with full power. However, running a narcotics business is not that easy as the state police are busy looking into the matter. As they investigate the drug business, on the other hand, Rani Ba’s (Dimple Kapadia) business comes into danger. A man named Monk (Deepak Dobriyal) comes into the picture and is at loggerheads with Savitri.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is about how women of today’s world lead the business with the utmost swag. It is a story about women’s empowerment and feminism with a touch of sass. These women show that it is time for ‘Matriarchy.’ You do feel like hitting the next button as Homi Adajania, the director, gives a ballsy yet riveting story about women. Yes, we have seen movies and series on sassy women before but it was the raw and gritty side of them that enticed me to an extent.

Story:

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo explores the power dynamics between a “unapologetically hardcore” mother-in-law and strong and tenacious younger women who are working under her.

Highlights of the series:

The best part of the series has to be the characters of these women. There’s one scene where the two sons of Rani Ba are talking about the ladies of the house. I liked how the perception in their heads is far different from what they actually are. So, during the scene, the sons Harish (Ashish Verma) and Kapil (Varun Mitra) are discussing that Bijlee, Kajal, Shanta and their own mother are quite submissive, boring and subdued. However, cut to it, we get to see them in a totally different avatar and that fascinated me.

Star performances:

Dimple Kapadia essays the role of Savitri and she plays the role as she owns it. Radhika Madan as Shanta is quite the opposite of her name. She is feisty and will take over what is hers. I have seen Radhika in such a character before, so her performance didn’t surprise me. Isha Talwar as Bijlee is a revelation. She plays her part with ease and knows her character too well.

Whereas Angira Dhar is a lethal combination of sweetness and spice. I really liked her killer vibes. On the other hand, Varun Mitra and Ashish Verma can be the heart of the story. Their presence and comic timings make them fun to watch. Finally, Deepak Dobriyal as Monk will send chills down your spine. After seeing him in Bholaa, I was sure that Deepak has a lot more to offer and I really enjoy it.

Conclusion:

Concluding my review, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is a must-watch series. Homi Adajania offers a riveting story that will keep you hooked per episode. If you are a fan of raw, gritty and explicit drama, then this is definitely for you.
