Mast Mein Rehne Ka review

Loneliness, togetherness, love, companionship, struggle, and stress are something that a person goes through at some point in their life. There’s no one who has not faced this kind of low in life. Well, to sum it up, Mast Mein Rehne Ka movie is all about these aspects and here’s a review of it. A slice-of-life movie which sweet and simple and doesn’t have any high or low points. The simplicity of the film will make your heart warm and will bring a smile to your face.

Director Vijay Maurya takes us through the life of two elderly people Kamath (Jackie Shroff) and Prakash (Neena Gupta) who are lonely in this crowded place like Mumbai. Vijay tells a story of people’s struggles, how people live for a living and how people struggle with loneliness after a certain age. Mast Mein Rehne Ka is a deep-rooted movie, showing the heart of Mumbai and life in a metro.

Story

A widower Kamath lives a disciplined life and maintains his health. He lives alone in Mumbai City and leads a very simple life. But then loneliness strikes him and he has no hope to live his life. One day, when a thief tries to rob his house, he requests the thief to kill him. However, despite all this, Kamath continues to live his life until he finds a ray of sunshine. He happens to meet another lonely soul named Prakash. If Kamath is surly and a man of few words, Prakash is a livewire and free-spirited. They started bonding over food, lame jokes and beer. On the other hand, a man named Nanhe tries to make a living in the city. He starts his own business but gets drowned due to heavy debts on his head. It makes him choose the wrong route to obtain money.

What’s good about Mast Mein Rehne Ka

Story: Vijay Maurya captures the life of Mumbaikars and the beautiful city but with a different lens. I liked how he tries to tell you a story about loneliness in a city like Mumbai which is the busiest and crowded place. The irony in the story is refreshing.

Performances: The relationship between Kamath with Prakash and Nanhe with Rani is unique and surreal. Like Kamath and Nanhe’s innocence or Prakash and Rani’s jazba to live life give a different feel altogether. You resonate with each character and you feel for them. They make your movie-watching experience quite beautiful and heartwarming.

What didn’t work for Mast Mein Rehne Ka

Technicalities: I feel there are still some glitches with the direction as it was not smooth or crisp. Even with the editing, some scenes were jumping from one frame to another without having a proper flow to the story.

Star Performance

First, it was lovely to see Jackie Shroff back again onscreen. Unlike his macho and larger-than-life character, he chose to play someone who is subdued and submissive. And that is what I loved about his character. He essays the role of Kamath in the movie and must say, his innocence, his eyes and his smile leave an impact on you. It is his simplicity that hits you on a different note.

As I have been saying for a while now, Neena Gupta is a natural. From her body language to her dialogue delivery, Neena lives her character instead of playing it onscreen. She just knows what needs to be done with her character and she creates magic. Well, she did the same in Mast Mein Rehne Ka movie where she essayed the role of Prakash. She has nicely added spunkiness and quirkiness to her character.

Monika Panwar plays the role of Rani who is headstrong and can stand up for herself. Monika delivers a strong performance with her character. On the other hand, Abhishek Chauhan plays Nanhe in the movie and he is so cute with his performance. I loved the way he acted with so much innocence.

Conclusion

Overall, Mast Mein Rehna Hai is a movie that is heartwarming due to its simple story. Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta are just endearing and you can feel the warmth of their performance. It does not have high or low points so don’t expect something that will amaze you. Watch the movie for its simplicity and quirky storyline.
