The Kashmir Files Unreported review

After the success of The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri shows Kashmir’s plight in more detail in his new docu-series The Kashmir Files Unreported. And it is unfiltered and uncensored. Watching the entire docu-series was quite daunting and disturbing for me. For someone who is completely unaware of Kashmir’s situation, this is the one that will you enlighten you about the entire scenario.

The people in Kashmir lived in constant fear and terrorism, thinking they will be killed one day. Imagine being in a state where you have no idea that you will come back home safely. You don’t know if your family members will come home at all. You don’t know if your house will be set on fire or you will be raped. Can you even imagine living your life in that uncertainty? The answer will always be a NO. However, the people of Kashmir were living a terrifying life in the state.

But why Kashmir has always come under everyone’s radar? Vivek Agnihotri tries to explain it by compiling real victims’ testimonies and facts together. Vivek goes all out and about Kashmir’s genocide, plebiscite and exodus which is heart-wrenching.

Story:

Once considered heaven on earth, Kashmir transformed into a war-like zone due to its political landscape. What led to the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and the eventual removal of Article 370?

Highlights of the series

Storyline: Since it is a docu-series, there’s no storyline as such; however, Vivek Agnihotri tries to give a flow to this chapter. He tries to maintain a flow by mixing testimonies and historical facts together. It helps the viewers to understand the Kashmir situation better.

Editing: The good thing about The Kashmir Files docu-series was that Vivek also kept some bits from the movie as well. That I found quite refreshing to see in a docu-series. He tries to keep it a little engaging by adding movie clips.

Execution: When I’m talking about keeping it engaging, I also liked how he added all the old footage of the real incidents that happened in Kashmir back in the day. He had all the materials and he has executed quite nicely.

Drawbacks of the series

The pace of the series is quite fast I feel. I was having a little difficulty in keeping up with the pace. The information coming is so quick that it takes time to even register in your head.

Editing: There are some instances where I felt that the victims’ testimonies were abruptly cut. It somewhere breaks the flow of their story.

Conclusion

Concluding my review, The Kashmir Files Unreported docu-series can be like a visual encyclopaedia on Kashmir. Vivek Agnihotri’s series is well executed which is daunting and disturbing. If you want to know everything about Kashmir, this docu-series should be on your watchlist. It is an eye-opener and heart-wrenching. The riveting plot is quite hard-hitting.
