The officials did not acknowledge any links between the controversy and their decision and stated that the task of finding a brand ambassador was to be performed by a PR agency empanelled by DAVP and not the Ministry.

Interestingly, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan who earlier used to endorse Indian Tourism also landed himself amidst a controversy after he expressed his opinion regarding the growing instances of intolerance in the country. Following massive negative reactions from all across the country, the Ministry’s contract with Khan was discontinued. However, the officials never acknowledged the controversy as the reason and stated that the tenure of the contract had expired.
