Salman Khan in court

Salman Khan has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, blaming the police for falsely implicating him in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The ‘Dabangg’ Khan is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and thus killing one and injuring four after his SUV rammed into a bakery close to his home in Bandra.

The ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ actor has asked the Supreme court to dismiss the Maharashtra government’s petition challenging his acquittal in the 2002 hit-and-run case. Salman Khan was acquitted by the High Court of all charges and his five-year jail sentence was cancelled. The court held that the prosecution had failed to establish that Khan was driving and had also discredited the testimony of a key prosecution witness Ravindra Patil who was present at the time of the incident.

The affidavit clearly states,” Salman wasn’t driving the car  and wasn’t drunk at the time of the accident. His driver Ashok Singh was at the wheel. His driver called the police control room after the accident and went to the police station to record his statement. Police refused to record his driver’s statement saying they were under pressure to arrest the actor.”

Salman added that there were two other persons present in the car beside Ravindra Patil, one was his driver Ashok Singh and the other singer Kamaal Khan whose testimony was never recorded by the police.

The Maharashtra Government had, on January 22, filed a petition in the apex court against the Bombay High Court’s judgement of freeing Khan of all charges.
