Ranya Rao’s Husband Files For Divorce Amid Ongoing Gold Smuggling Case; Says, “Since The Day We Got Married…”

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been making headlines owing to controversial and career-ending reasons. The actress was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport last month by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for smuggling gold allegedly worth Rs 12 crore. While she continues to fight the gold smuggling case, her husband, Jatin Hukkeri, has now decided to divorce her.

Ranya Rao’s Husband Files For Divorce

Jatin recently held a press conference and spoke about wanting to file for divorce from Ranya. A Times Now report quoted Jatin Hukkeri saying, “Since the day we got married, I have been enduring pain and distress. Today, I have made the decision to file for divorce.”

While Jatin Hukkeri states that he wants to divorce Ranya Rao, the ongoing gold smuggling case has also increased scrutiny on Jatin. Police have alleged that he frequently travelled with the actress to Dubai, the same place Rao has been accused of smuggled gold from.

Ranya-Jatin Wedding

Jatin Hukkeri married Ranya Rao in a high-profile marriage at Taj West End around four months ago. Post the wedding, the duo moved into a high-end apartment in Bengaluru’s upscale Lavelle Road. Hukkeri is an architect by profession who earned his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Interior Design from RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru. He further studies at the Royal College of Art – Executive Education, London, specialising in Disruptive Market Innovation.

Ranya’s Gold Smuggling Case

Ranya Rao – the stepdaughter of Director General of Police (Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao, was arrested last month for smuggling gold from Dubai to India. She was under the radar of authorities due to frequent travel to Dubai, with them alleging she travelled to the city 30 times over the past year, and four times in 15 days. Following her arrest in March, the Bengaluru Directorate of Revenue Intelligence recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash from her Bengaluru home during raids.

Rao’s bail plea has been rejected three times as of now.
