Jana Nayagan Vijay Thalapathy

The digital rollout of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay Thalapathy, has reportedly hit a roadblock as the film continues to face delays in securing its censor certificate. Directed by H. Vinoth, the political action thriller has been under scrutiny for the past few months due to certification-related issues. The film was originally slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, but the plan had to be pushed after the Central Board of Film Certification did not grant clearance in time, leaving both its theatrical and digital release timelines uncertain.

Vijay Thalapathy’s Jana Nayagan Rs 120 Cr OTT Deal Falls Through

According to reports by Tamil news channel Thanthi TV, the digital streaming rights for the film, which were reportedly valued at around Rs 120 crore, have fallen through as uncertainty around the film’s release continues. The OTT platform that had initially agreed to acquire the rights is said to have withdrawn from the deal due to the prolonged delay and unresolved certification issues.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan has been facing hurdles for several months due to complications related to its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was originally slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival, but failed to hit screens after it did not receive its censor certificate in time.

Reports suggest that objections raised over certain scenes led to the film being referred to a revising committee, triggering a legal and procedural process that has significantly delayed the project’s release timeline. The prolonged uncertainty has reportedly impacted not only its theatrical plans but also its digital distribution prospects.

With the censor issue yet to be fully resolved, the makers are reportedly awaiting clearance before announcing a revised release date. Meanwhile, the collapse of the reported Rs 120 crore OTT deal has added another layer of uncertainty to the already troubled rollout of the high-profile Tamil film.
