The nationwide lockdown has made people stay confined to their homes. Since this time the lockdown is of 21 days, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has announced that the mythology series ‘Ramayan’ will air again from March 28, Saturday. Internet and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar confirmed the news saying the show is back on ‘public demand’.

Union Minister Prakash Javedkar took to the micro-blogging site and wrote, “Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting to retelecast of ‘Ramayana’ from tomorrow, Saturday, March 28 in DD National, One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm.”

Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’ is one of the most popular television shows of the 80s. It aired on Doordarshan and it featured Arun Govil as Ram and Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Arvind Trivedi as Raavan and Dara Singh as Hanuman. It originally aired from 25 January 1987 to 31 July 1988.

Apart from ‘Ramayan’, fans are also demanding to re-telecast other popular shows like ‘Shaktiman’, ‘Mahabharat’ and ‘Chanakya’. Owing to the nationwide lockdown, shooting of TV serials and films have been put on hold. Hence television producers have come up with the idea of re-telecasting popular shows are airing web-series on the small screen.
