Veteran actor Shyam Sundar, who played Sugreev in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ is no more. The news of his death was confirmed by his co-star Arun Govil, who played Ram in the show.

As per a report in ABP Live, Shyam was suffering from cancer and he died on April 6 in Kalka. Arun, offering his condolences, took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Sad to know about demise of Mr. Shyam Sundar who played the role of Sugreev in Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan”… A very fine person and a gentleman. May his soul rest in peace.

Actor Sunil Lahri, who had portrayed the role of Laxman in ‘Ramayan’ also offered condolences. “Very sad and sorry to hear sudden demise of our colleague Mr Shyam Kalani who played role of sugriv and Bali with us in Ramayan God give peace to his soul and strength to his family to face irrecoverable loss…. RIP.”

Apart from ‘Ramayan’, Shyam also featured in ‘Mahabharat’. He even worked ion feature films like ‘Trimurti’, ‘Heer Ranjha’ and ‘Chaila Babu’ to name a few.

Incidently, ‘Ramayan’ which first aired in the 80s is being re-run on Doordarshan during the lockdown period. The show returned to the television on public demand.
