Taapsee Pannu photos

We’re big fans of the drastic metamorphosis that sarees have witnessed in the recent years. And we’re so glad that the cloth has gone a lot beyond something you borrow from your mother only for special occasions. Having said that, it’s disheartening when designers dampen the quintessential charm of this forever-sexy garment by experimenting too much. And that’s exactly what has happened with Taapsee Pannu’s outfit.

For an episode of a TV show recently, the actress wore this seemingly elegant conceptual saree by Nikita Mhaisalkar from her Autumn Winter 2017 collection. The grey knit short saree was cinched at the waist, perfectly highlighting Taapsee’s svelte frame, and was clubbed with a matching sequined striped shirt blouse. Now here’s the tricky part. Firstly, the outfit looks like a skirt considering the mid-length and the fact that it had a thigh-high slit at an awkward place. You can either have a slit on the back, side or right on the thigh at the front. But this one was lost somewhere behind and didn’t meet its purpose. Also, what’s with the trail that has a thick silver border? Although the concept sounds exciting, it fails to add that eccentric punch to the outfit. The hairstylist Seema Mane gave Taapsee a bun that looked like a messy ponytail and totally failed to impress us. The actress completed the look with metallic sandals and hoop earrings that looked out of place.

We love the corduroy-ish feel of the outfit and also the shimmery shirt blouse. Of course, the lady pulled off the ensemble with utmost confidence. But the slit, the train and the length just doesn’t make the cut and is a tad disappointing. Nevertheless, fashion is always a risk and it’s better to stir things up instead of playing it safe. So, we’ll still look forward to more experimentation from you, Taapsee.
