Riteish Deshmukh Raja Shivaji Box Office

Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama, Raja Shivaji has released and is working wonders at the box office. Despite mixed reviews, the biographic actioner – based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has managed to impress the audience. As per the latest box office report, the film has amassed over Rs 30 crores over the last three days, becoming the biggest opener of Marathi cinema to date.

Raja Shivaji Box Office

As reported by trade website Sacnilk, Raja Shivaji witnessed over 36% growth on Sunday, amassing an impressive Rs 12 crore across languages. Of this, the film collected Rs 4.25 crore from 3,919 Hindi shows and the remaining – Rs 7.75 crore, from 1,852 theatres screening the Marathi version. The Riteish Deshmukh-led historic drama’s current nett total stands at Rs 33.90 crore while its total gross is currently Rs 40.34 crore.

About Raja Shivaji

Co-written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji is based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. The film is co-produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande.

Talking about its ensemble cast, the historic drama stars Riteish and Genelia as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Saibai, respectively. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, portray younger version of Shivaji Raje. Alongside the Deshmukhs, the film also features Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar and Bhagyashree in pivotal roles. The film also stars Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte and Salman Khan in key roles.

Reportedly, Raja Shivaji is the most expensive Marathi film made to date, with a budget of Rs 100 crore. Giving the film a 3-star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review“There is no problem in the story being told, the film just suffers on several accounts because of technology such as VFX, editing and action choreography.”
