Anurag Basu Rishi Kapoor Jagga Jasoos

Ranbir Kapoor and filmmaker Anurag Basu gave us a gem of a film, ‘Barfi!’, which was loved by the audience and the critics alike. However, their second collaboration, musical adventure comedy, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ failed to live up to everyone’s expectations.

‘Jagga Jasoos’ released last year on July 14, and after its dismal performance at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor’s father, Rishi Kapoor lashed out at Anurag Basu and blamed him for the film’s poor fate. Criticising Anurag, Rishi had said, “I didn’t hate or love the film. I only felt it needed to be abridged by 20 minutes. But who is going to give that opinion to them? I totally agree with Ekta [Kapoor] when she threw him out from her film. He had problems with Rakesh Roshan while working on ‘Kites’ (2010). He’s such an irresponsible director that he doesn’t complete the film. It was supposed to release three times in the past two years, but it kept getting delayed.”

A year after the whole scenario, in one of his recent interview to Film Companion, Anurag Basu finally talking about Rishi Kapoor’s accusation and his equation with Ranbir said, “See Chintu ji is Chintu ji (laughs), so no… it never changed (his equation with Ranbir), I think we are special, we are more than friends. It’ll take a bigger thing to change our friendship…I’m not saying I am a guy he is meeting and partying with everyday but the connect is too deep. And for every important decision of his life or my life, we are consulting each other.”

Sharing about how the failure of ‘Jagga Jasoos’ affected him personally, Anurag said, “If I had made a bad film, it would have hurt. In terms of craft, I’m not being questioned. Thankfully the industry is not so rude that they only go by box officers numbers. But again, what Jagga has taken away from me is one more experimental film I would love to do. So I’ll have to wait for another good film, a successful film, to again do something new.”

Well, Anurag, we would be more than happy to see you collaborate with Ranbir Kapoor all over again.
