Sunny Deol-starrer historical film Batwara 1947 has reportedly received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, according to sources. Based on acclaimed playwright Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition. As reported by TOI, with the censor certification in place, the Rajkumar Santoshi-directed movie is scheduled for its theatrical release on August 14, 2026. The story revolves around a Mohajir family that crosses into Lahore and takes over an abandoned Hindu home. Central to the narrative is an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her ancestral house. This leads to conflicts between her and the Mohajir family.

The film aims to celebrate the bonds of family and human connection. It highlights themes of courage and humanity during one of India’s most difficult periods. Sunny Deol stars as the protagonist driven by bravery and compassion amid widespread violence. Veteran actress Shabana Azmi plays an elderly woman stranded in Pakistan who refuses to abandon her home.

Recently, the makers released a new poster along with the film’s release date. The poster features an idol of Lord Krishna with a lit diya in the foreground. It is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition. The caption reads, “When the world chose sides, HE chose dharma. Watch #Batwara1947 in cinemas this Partition Day, 14th August.”

About The Film

Rajkumar Santoshi has directed the film and Aamir Khan Productions has produced it. The film features Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur. The soundtrack is composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The latest song, Kahaan Chale Gaye Ho Ram, has already been released. The movie is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
