Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge OTT Release

The legal battle surrounding Dhurandhar The Revenge and its controversial track Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) has taken another major turn. Weeks after mediation reportedly failed between filmmaker Aditya Dhar and Tridev producer Rajiv Rai over the alleged unauthorised use of Tirchi Topiwale. The Delhi High Court has now refused to stay the film’s OTT release.

Delhi HC Refuses To Stay Dhurandhar The Revenge OTT Release

According to Live Law and multiple reports, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela declined to grant interim relief to Trimurti Films Private Limited. Which had sought an injunction against the use of the original song Tirchi Topiwale. And its remixed version Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) in Dhurandhar The Revenge across digital platforms.

The latest ruling comes as a follow-up to the ongoing copyright row that had already delayed clarity around the film’s OTT rollout. Earlier, Trimurti Films had alleged that only limited audio rights were assigned to Super Cassettes Industries Pvt. Ltd. (T-Series) under a 1988 agreement and claimed no permission was granted to synchronise or repurpose the song in another film. The production house argued that the remix violated its copyright over the literary, musical, and sound recording works associated with the iconic Tridev track.

Court Says Damages Can Be Granted Later

On the other hand, the defendants, including B62 Studios Pvt. Ltd., Jio Studios, and T-Series, opposed the plea. They reportedly argued that songs from Tridev had earlier appeared in films such as Azhar and K.G.F: Chapter 1 without any legal challenge at the time. The court also noted the plaintiff’s delayed approach and observed that stopping the OTT release after the film’s theatrical run would create an “inconceivable” situation.

While refusing to halt the streaming release, the court clarified that if Trimurti Films ultimately succeeds in proving copyright infringement during trial, monetary damages can still be awarded later.

However, the Delhi High Court directed T-Series to deposit Rs 50 lakh before the Registrar General within four weeks. The amount will reportedly remain in an interest-bearing fixed deposit until the trial concludes. With the successful party receiving its benefit.
