The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre and the Central Board of Film Certification to examine allegations that the film Dhurandhar 2. Starring Ranveer Singh, discloses sensitive operational details of the armed forces. The court issued the direction while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed over concerns linked to national security. Read on for details.
Did Dhurandhar 2 Reveal Army Operation Details?
As per Bar and bench reports, during the hearing, it was observed that even though the film may be fiction. The concerns raised by the petitioner could not be ignored. The court said, “That the movie may be a work of fiction, but the concerns raised by the petitioner cannot be said to be bereft of any material.”
It further added, “Even if the movie is a work of fiction and imagination and is made for entertainment purposes. The impact of the movie can’t be denied.”
The PIL was filed by Deepak Kumar, a Head Constable with the Sashastra Seema Bal. He alleged that the film depicts operational tactics of the armed forces and reveals sensitive details, including references linked to defence-related drug development by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The petition also claimed that certain characters and scenes closely resemble real officials and deceased servicemen.
Delhi HC Orders: “The Censor Board Should Have Some Guidelines”
The court noted that the matter required review by the concerned authorities. It said, “The censor board should have some guidelines. We will only direct you to consider his representation and take an informed decision.”
Importantly, the bench did not issue any stay on the film’s release. Instead, it directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the CBFC to treat the petition as a representation and take an appropriate decision.
In conclusion, the Delhi High Court has not halted Dhurandhar The Revenge but has asked the Centre and CBFC to examine the allegations carefully. The matter now rests with the authorities to assess whether the film raises any genuine national security concerns.
