Diljit Dosanjh’s ex-manager, Sonali Singh, has spoken out in his defense amid the backlash he is facing for sharing screen space with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. She described the recent criticism as “unfair” and emphasised that the film was shot well before the current political tensions heightened.

Sonali posted a detailed message on Instagram under the title “Always Choosing Love Over Hate” to support Diljit amidst the negative reactions. In her note, she highlighted Diljit’s two-decade-long career. She noted that he has become a cultural icon not just in India but globally. Sonali pointed out that, despite being targeted repeatedly as a proud Sikh, Punjabi, and Indian artist, he has always responded with love, unity, and kindness rather than outrage.
She described the criticism as “disheartening and unfair”. And reminds everyone that Sardaar Ji 3 was filmed long before the political climate worsened. Sonali also warned that boycotting a film not backed by a major corporate house could significantly impact its commercial success.
Sonali Elaborates On Diljit’s Decision
She further noted that Diljit’s decision could have a serious financial impact on the film. But she emphasised that he is prioritising the well-being of the producers, crew, and families connected to the project. And he is also respecting national sentiment. Sonali reflected on how it’s painful that while the global media celebrates Diljit’s achievements. It includes performing at Coachella, appearing on Jimmy Fallon with his traditional identity, and attending the Met Gala proudly representing his culture. He faces criticism back home.
She questioned whether people realise how much this hurts him. Sonali called for an end to this cycle of punishment. She urges everyone to stop scrutinising artists for simply being human, emphasising that Diljit’s only language has been love.
Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy
Regarding Sardaar Ji 3, the film’s team is currently facing intense backlash over Hania Aamir’s inclusion. It comes especially since the film will not release in India and is scheduled to premiere overseas on June 27. The controversy is linked to recent geopolitical tensions. It includes the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 and India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7. It involves air strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
