Farhan Akhtar backed Boong wins at BAFTA 2026

Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures’ critically acclaimed film Boong has won the BAFTA honour in the Best Children’s & Family Film category at the 79th British Academy Film Awards. Makers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Lakshmipriya Devi and Alan McAlex attended the prestigious ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi. The heartfelt children’s drama, which has travelled across prestigious global platforms, represents a significant collaboration bringing regional Indian storytelling to the international stage. The film won the BAFTA honour while competing alongside major international titles such as Zootopia 2, Lilo & Stitch, and Arco.

About Boong

The film revolves around a little boy who plans to surprise his mother with a special gift. He believes that bringing his absentee father back home would be the most meaningful present. The search for his father disintegrates his world but culminates in an unexpected gift.

Boong, starring Gugun Kipgen, Bala Hijam Ningthoujam and Angom Sanamatum in pivotal roles, premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. It has also been screened at the Warsaw International Film Festival 2024, MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024, the International Film Festival of India, and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025, among others.

Farhan attended the event alongside his wife, Shibani Dandekar, helping to enhance the festive mood. The BAFTA victory represents a major achievement for regional Indian cinema.
