Tabu

Many Bollywood actresses do come out in support of women rights and proudly call themselves a feminist, but for Tabu, feminist is not a word she would like to be called as. At a recently held literary festival Tabu said that she does not want to be called as a feminist.

She attended the three-day Mountain Echoes Literary Festival in Thimphu and that’s when she made a statement saying, “I don’t want to be called a feminist, but I don’t disown feminism. Our actions are more important than these labels”, while exclaiming that she loves women’s right activist Maya Angelou’s writings.

Tabu, who has marvels like ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Maqbool’, ‘Maachis’ and many more to her credit, also said that female directors in Bollywood industry are yet to receive their due. She says, “We have very few women directors in Bollywood. Farah Khan is one director who managed to make the cut.”
