Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor’s Homebound cinematographer Pratik Shah, has deleted his Instagram account amidst serious allegations of emotional abuse and manipulation by filmmaker Abhinav Singh, sparking outrage and further claims from others online. Shah, known for his work on Amazon Prime Video’s Jubilee, the upcoming feature CTRL, and the Cannes-premiered Homebound (2025), is at the centre of this controversy.

Homebound Cinematographer Pratik Shah Accused Of Emotional Abuse, Manipulation By Filmmaker Abhinav Singh

The allegations surfaced after Abhinav Singh took to Instagram to share his personal experiences, describing Pratik Shah as “highly manipulative” and “emotionally abusive.” Singh’s candid account prompted nearly 20 women to reach out with similar stories of troubling interactions, revealing a disturbing pattern of behaviour. Singh expressed his frustration over the industry’s silence, calling out the lack of support from male colleagues and urging men to use their privilege to listen, question, and challenge such conduct, arguing that true masculinity involves showing up and standing against abuse.

Following the backlash, Shah appears to have deleted his Instagram, with his handle now showing as “User not found.”

Srishti Riya Jain’s Reddit Post

The situation escalated further when filmmaker and writer Srishti Riya Jain posted on her Instagram, alleging Shah has been “on the prowl” for the past four years. Jain pointed to Reddit discussions where users accused Shah of repeatedly sliding into women’s DMs and making them uncomfortable, criticising the industry’s hypocrisy in praising projects like Homebound, which was celebrated at Cannes for its empathy, while turning a blind eye to such misconduct behind the scenes.

Jain highlighted the disconnect between the film’s emotionally sensitive portrayal and Shah’s alleged behaviour, questioning the industry’s complicity. Reddit users shared their own experiences, with one describing Shah as “a total sleazeball” who “slides into every girl’s DMs,” and another recounting how Shah sent a follow request, then dismissed it as a mistake after being confronted.

As of now, Shah has not issued any public response. The film community and social media users continue to demand accountability, calling for transparency and reflection on how such behaviour persists unnoticed in an industry that often preaches empathy but fails to address internal misconduct.
