For some time now, reports have been circulating about SS Rajamouli planning a film on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, with Jr NTR attached to the project. However, a recent update suggests that the Devara actor has decided to withdraw from the film. According to sources, Jr NTR was dissatisfied because the movie was to be directed not by Rajamouli himself but by his son, Karthik. Additionally, he felt that since Aamir Khan is working on a similar biopic of Phalke, there was little point in undertaking another project on the same subject.
Jr NTR Has Quit AA Rajamouli’s Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic
“Firstly, NTR isn’t interested in portraying real-life characters, especially legendary figures from the past. Secondly, the Phalke biopic was to be helmed by Karthik Rajamouli, not his father. Thirdly, Aamir Khan is already working on a Dadasaheb Phalke biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Doing another similar film would be redundant,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
Other reasons cited include the fact that the film was to be directed by Karthik Rajamouli and its potential overlap with Aamir Khan’s project, which would diminish its uniqueness and appeal.
Jr NTR’s Current Projects
Currently, Jr NTR is occupied with his upcoming project with director Prashanth Neel, tentatively titled ‘Dragon’. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts, the film stars Rukmini Vasanth and is scheduled for release on June 25, 2026. Meanwhile, the makers of ‘Devara’ recently announced a sequel, ‘Devara 2’, which will feature the original cast, including Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.
Jr NTR’s future projects also include a mythological fantasy film with director Trivikram Srinivas, where he will portray Lord Karthikeya. Reports also suggest discussions are ongoing for a collaboration with director Nelson Dilipkumar.
SS Rajamouli’s Projects
Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli continues with the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic despite Jr NTR’s withdrawal and objections from Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar. Rumours claiming Prabhas has been approached for the role have been dismissed.
Jr NTR recently made his Bollywood debut in ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani, directed by Ayan Mukerji.
