Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly criticised the trailer of The Kerala Story 2. He called it “false propaganda” and a threat to secularism. The trailer of the upcoming Hindi film, which is said to be based on real events depicting the plight of girls caught in forced conversion cases. This has ignited controversy just hours after its release. While some viewers and political figures have labelled the film as propaganda, Vijayan issued a firm statement condemning it.
Kerala CM CRITICISES The Kerala Story 2 Trailer Calling It A ‘Poisonous, False Propaganda’
On Wednesday, Vijayan expressed his concerns over the film’s release. He stated that its predecessor was created to spread hatred against the state and undermine Kerala’s secular fabric. In a statement from his office, he questioned how such “poisonous works” that promote division and hatred are allowed to be screened. This is especially when films like Beef have faced bans in film festivals.
“They are spreading false propaganda by depicting even marriages conducted with mutual consent as examples of communalism and forced religious conversions,” Vijayan said. He emphasised that Kerala is known for its harmony and absence of communal riots. It is under threat from forces hostile to its peaceful coexistence. Calling these groups “enemies of the state,” he warned that they are attempting to destabilise the region’s peace through such films.
“We must unite to reject attempts to portray Kerala, a land renowned for religious harmony, sustainable development, and law and order, as a hub of terrorism. It is our collective responsibility to protect Kerala’s secular foundations from false propaganda, upholding the values of secularism and brotherhood,” Vijayan added.

The Kerala Story was directed by Sudipto Sen. It starred Adah Sharma, Sonia Balani, Yogita Bihani, and Siddhi Idnani. The film faced bans and controversy over its content, but still achieved box office success. It grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide on a Rs 20 crore budget. The film received critical acclaim, winning two National Film Awards for Best Director (Sudipto Sen) and Best Cinematography (Prasantanu Mohapatra).
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on February 27.
