Madhoo Shah shares that her only deal-breaker was not performing explicit scenes onscreen, and she admires Shabana Azmi’s boldness in Fire, hoping to do something similar someday. Known for rising to fame with Mani Ratnam’s Roja, Madhoo believes her ‘gharelu’ image stemmed from her upbringing, which prevented her from taking on daring roles.
Madhoo Shah Reveals Her ONLY Deal-Breaker On Sets
In an interview with News18 Showsha, Madhoo explained, “And that’s the only reason why I turned down films. Otherwise, I said yes to everything that came my way. However, there was one time I had to kiss my co-star, whom I choose not to name, in a film, which wasn’t a very pleasant experience.” She emphasises, “The only deal-breaker I had was not doing explicit scenes onscreen.”
Reflecting on the incident, she shared, “It wasn’t the kind of kiss we see in films today. It was more like a peck on the lips, but it made me feel really bad.” She revealed she only learned about the scene when she arrived on set. “That I was required to kiss wasn’t communicated to me beforehand. When I was told, they took me aside and explained why it was important, so I did it. Still, it was the most horrible and unconvincing thing I had to do,” Madhoo recalls.
Ultimately, she chose to let it go, and the scene made it into the final cut of the film. “The kiss didn’t even serve any purpose. I didn’t discuss with the director about leaving that scene out. I just let it pass. I was very young and naïve—not just in years, but in experience,” she explains. “Today, 22- and 24-year-olds are so much more exposed and clever. At 22, I was quite naïve,” she adds.
Madhoo is currently preparing for her upcoming film Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu and Akshay Kumar.
