Nayak 2 CONFIRMED! Anil Kapoor Returns As Shivaji Rao 25 Years Later; Actor To Co-Produce Sequel

After acquiring the rights, Anil Kapoor is now working on Nayak 2. Co-producer Deepak Mukut confirmed that he and Anil are collaborating on the project, with the actor set to reprise his role. This news is a delight for fans of the cult classic, as the sequel is officially in development, and Kapoor will return as Shivaji Rao. Earlier, it was reported that Kapoor had obtained the rights from Nayak’s producer, AM Rathnam.

Recently, further details emerged: Kapoor is not only co-producing the film with Deepak Mukut but will also star in it. When questioned by Hindustan Times about Kapoor purchasing the rights, Mukut responded, “He (Anil) and I are making the film together. It’s too early to share specifics since discussions are ongoing.”

He also confirmed, “Yes, the sequel is in progress, and we are producing it together.” While he didn’t reveal the production schedule or casting details, Mukut assured fans that Kapoor will be part of the project, stating, “Of course, he will!”

Regarding the start of filming, Mukut shared that the project will only move forward once the script is finalised. As reported by Bombay Times, Mukut said, “I can’t reveal much, but I can confirm that we are working on it together. We are aware of the rumours, but the project is in development. We will make an official announcement soon.”

He emphasised that Nayak is a “legacy project,” noting that it’s been nearly 25 years since the original and that everything happens at the right time. He added, “When the time is right, it will happen. We had an understanding, and we are moving forward with it; beyond that, I cannot say more.”

Nayak is a Hindi remake of director Shankar’s Tamil blockbuster Mudhalvan (1999). The film featured Anil Kapoor in the lead, with Amrish Puri as the antagonist, alongside Rani Mukerji, Johnny Lever, and Shivaji Satam in key roles. Although the 2001 Hindi remake was a box office disappointment, repeated reruns on television over the years transformed Nayak into a cult classic among audiences.
