Medha Shankr Reflects On 12th Fail Success; Credits It For Inspiring Filmmakers To Create Inspirational Films

Medha Shankr is gearing up for a big screen spectacle, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, co-starring Avinash Tiwary. As she buckles up to create an impact once again, she has done it before with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s critically acclaimed piece, 12th Fail, a poignant creation that not only displayed Shankr’s acting skills, but also earned her praise from the critics and audience.

Medha Shankr Looks Back At The Roaring Success Of 12th Fail

Recently, Medha opened up about 12th Fail and shared her views about the perception during the film’s release, especially at a time when films like Animal, Jawan and Pathaan were doing well. She says, “I was new at that time, and too grateful beyond words to have that opportunity to do that film. I really did not care about the perception about our film in the industry. I really did not care if people were rooting for us or praising us. I was really happy that I was doing that film. I always had this childlike faith that this film was going to do well. Everybody else was being practical.”

The actress further shared that she makes an on-screen choice that relies on her trust towards the filmmaker. She shares, “I don’t think I necessarily look at work like that. I only do a film if I completely trust the filmmaker. I should also love the script, that is something that is of primary importance to me.”

Delving into the positive impact that 12th Fail created, she adds, “The success of 12th Fail made other filmmakers go like ‘Oh my god. We can also make a film like this.’ Heartland and content-driven films are making so much money. Director Sajid Ali also mentioned this one time that my film was giving others so much hope that we can also make films like that.”

Meanwhile, Medha is all set for the magnum theatrical release of Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, a breezy rom-com that sees her alongside Avinash Tiwary for the first time. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Lillete Dubey, Sudhir Pandey, Govind Namdev, Gopi Bhalla, Nayani Dixit, Vishwanath Chatterjee, and Rohit Chaudhary. Written and directed by Prasshant Jha, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 is all set to hit theatres on April 24, 2026.
