‘Sheer Qorma’: Shabana Azmi to play Divya Dutta’s mother in this LGBTQ drama

Shabana Azmi has come on board for filmmaker Faraz Arif Ansari’s upcoming film ‘Sheer Qorma’. The film stars two power-house performers – Divya Dutta and Swara Bhasker. Revolving around the struggles of the LGBTQ community, ‘Sheer Qorma’ features Divya and Swara in a same-sex relationship. The National-award winning actress Shabana is quite excited to play Divya’s mother in the film.

Opening up about what made her give a green signal to this project, Azmi told Mumbai Mirror, “I was moved by the script which was recommended to me by Divya. After that, I met Faraz who came across as sincere, honest and deeply committed to the story.”

The veteran actress further added, “The bonus is working with Divya and Swara, so we figured out the dates and I said yes’ to the project. We had the first workshop last week and everything came together organically. I am looking forward to the shoot.”

Faraz is on cloud nine after having such a wonderful ensemble cast in his film. Expressing his happiness, he took to his Instagram handle and wrote, “Must’ve done something good in life to have been blessed with such a fantastic cast for @sheerqorma.thefilm. Cannot wait to bring this magic to the big screen.”

Revealing about Azmi’s character in the film, director Ansari defined her role as ‘Mother India of 21st Century’. The shooting of the film will kickstart this month.
