According to a report in Hindustan Times, Param Bir Singh said that people with vested interest ran a smear campaign against Mumbai Police to discredit them. Singh also said that Mumbai Police conducted a fair investigation and all those criticizing their probe of SSR’s case were doing so without even knowing any facts.

The same report also suggested that around 80,000 fake accounts were created after Sushant’s death to discredit Mumbai Police and Maharashtra government amidst their probe. These accounts were made to run a smear campaign and spread fake theories about Sushant’s death. Singh has asked cyber cell to investigate these fake accounts and register case under the Information Technology Act.

Speaking about the smear campaign, Singh told the daily, “The campaign was run against Mumbai police just to demoralise us at a time when 84 policemen had died due to the pandemic and over 6,000 men were infected with the virus. This was a motivated campaign with vested interest just to malign the image of Mumbai police and derail our line of investigation. Multiple fake accounts on social media were created to target Mumbai police with abusive tones. Our cyber cell is conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and all those found violating the law will be prosecuted under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.” Singh also said that AIIMS latest report has justified their investigation and Cooper hospital’s findings.
