Bengali Actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee Drowns To Death While Filming

Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was shooting for the Bengali project Bhole Baba Paar Karega near Talsari beach, around 8 km from Digha. According to the team, the incident occurred after the shoot had wrapped for the day. Director Subhashis Mondal recalled, “The shoot had ended and most of the cast left, but Rahul-da insisted on an unscripted drone shot. We were filming honeymoon scenes with Rahul-da and Sweta (Mishra) in knee-deep water. The first take was completed. Sweta felt uneasy after a small wave hit her and decided to leave. Rahul-da wanted a second take with him facing the camera and went deeper into the water. The entire team requested him (to come out of water), but he didn’t listen.”

What followed was devastating. “A bigger wave caused him to slip and swallow water. We all jumped to rescue him. Lifeguards also joined in the rescue operation and he was rushed to a hospital. He responded twice while being taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.”

Senior Doctor And Police Officials Confirm

A senior doctor at Digha State General Hospital confirmed, “He was brought to the hospital around 6.10pm. He had passed away by the time our doctors examined him.” Police officials also stated, “He was brought in a lifeless state,” adding that an unnatural death case has been registered. Authorities are now probing the incident. “While primary evidence points towards a heart attack followed by drowning, we need to go through the post-mortem report to know the cause of death. We are questioning crew members to know the sequence of events and trying to find out whether the safety protocol was followed during the shoot,” said a senior officer.

Actress Diganta Bagchi Recalls The Accident

Another account from the set further highlighted the confusion around the incident. Actor Diganta Bagchi told ANI, “After today’s shoot, he went alone to the water but somehow got entangled in something under the water…The exact circumstances are not clear. Suddenly, people, including crew members, were shouting that Rahul was drowning, and we pulled him out of the water. We rushed him to Digha hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

As news of his passing spread, shockwaves rippled across the industry. Soon after, disturbing images and videos of Rahul’s final moments began circulating online. Drawing sharp criticism from many, including actor Puja Banerjee.

Puja Banerjee SLAMS Media For Sharing Death Images

Reacting strongly, Puja took to social media and wrote, “Shame on media and shame on us public who likes the pics of dead people who when alive was an artist and their family’s crying videos. It’s the fault of both sides, log dekhte hai isliye media dikhati hai (people watch so the media shows it). When alive, he was an artist and belonged to the public, but when he lost his life, he became someone’s husband, son, brother and most importantly, a father. Show some respect, people. I request pls delete his dead body’s pics and videos” (sic). She ended her note with a simple, heartbreaking message, “RIP Rahul.”

Rahul had first captured audiences’ attention with his debut in Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, directed by Raj Chakraborty. Over the years, he built an impressive filmography with projects like Zulfiqar, Jaatishwar, Byomkesh Gotro, and several television shows. He also ran a popular podcast channel, Shohoj Kotha, named after his 13-year-old son.
