Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama, Raja Shivaji, was released in theatres on May 1, and here’s the box office collection report of its opening day. According to trade website Sacnilk, Raja Shivaji earned Rs 11.35 crore net in India on its first day. The film performed better in Marathi than in Hindi, with an overall occupancy of 32%. It collected Rs 8 crore net in Marathi and Rs 3.35 crore net in Hindi. The opening was solid, and all eyes are on how it progresses in the coming days, especially with the weekend approaching and potential growth in collections.

Notably, Raja Shivaji has surpassed the opening-day collections of Manikarnika (2019), which earned Rs 8.75 crore. Other historical dramas such as Tanhaji (2020), starring Ajay Devgn and directed by Om Raut, opened with Rs 15.10 crore. Chhaava (2025), featuring Vicky Kaushal and directed by Laxman Utekar, debuted with Rs 33.50 crore.

Raja Shivaji is a film co-written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, based on the life of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire. Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande have produced the film. Riteish and Genelia play Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Saibai, respectively. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, portray young Shivaji.
The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte in key roles. Reportedly, this is the most expensive Marathi film ever made, with a budget of Rs 100 crore. It was also released in Hindi and has received mixed reviews.
