Ankit Balyan, a popular Haryanvi singer and YouTuber, was tragically shot dead outside a gym in Shamli district. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when Balyan was leaving the gym, and unidentified assailants arrived on two motorcycles and fired multiple rounds, hitting him fatally on the spot. Balyan, who had over 3.66 lakh subscribers on YouTube, was known for his performances as a singer and performer, often featuring firearms, SUVs, and collaborations in his videos. There are speculations that he might have been planning to contest in upcoming panchayat polls. However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding a motive related to politics or any other reason.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav described the killing as “highly condemnable.” He criticised the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Uttar Pradesh and demanded a thorough investigation. Yadav also called it an attack on the Jat community, noting that the community has raised demands for the immediate arrest of the culprits and considers the murder an affront to itself.

Yadav highlighted the emotional scene of Balyan’s mother mourning on the road with her son’s body in her lap, calling it “heart-wrenching.” He expressed concern over the rising fear in the region and emphasised the need for justice. Yadav also noting the possibility of political rivalry as a motive under investigation. This shocking incident underscores the violence and law-and-order challenges faced in parts of Uttar Pradesh. Both the community and political voices are demanding swift action.
