Ali Mughal opened up about working with Sunny Deol, an actor he associates deeply with powerful patriotic cinema. Sharing his admiration, Ali spoke about the privilege of sharing screen space with the legendary star in Border 2 and reflected on Sunny Deol’s on-screen intensity, off-screen humility, and the lasting impact his performances have had on him since childhood.
Ali Mughal On Sunny Deol Being His Inspiration
Narrating the story to Bollywood Bubble, he said, “Sunny paaji is an inspiration, and it is a privilege to work with him. He is like a king in real life, so calm and quiet, but on screen, he is incredibly convincing with his nuances and performances. His work has amazed me since my childhood.”
“I remember a scene from his film Ghatak, where Sunny sir and Amrish sir are emotional together. It is very close to my heart and makes me cry every time I watch it. Despite having such stardom and everything one can imagine, he is still so grounded, humble, and polite. He is the real superstar. I feel truly grateful to be sharing the screen with the legendary Sunny Sir in Border 2,” he added.
Furthermore, the actor spoke about how war films often demand authenticity and how Border 2 required any special training, physical, dialect-based, or emotional for his role. He said, “I remember our first look test started with complete authenticity, with a retired Army officer checking every detail, the uniform, body language, communication, and everything. We shot in real cantonments, sometimes with real soldiers, and underwent a lot of training for weapon handling and fighting scenes.
It is not an easy task at all to live the life of an Army officer. It takes a lot of effort to maintain the discipline, character, and feeling of honour. To understand and try to become one was a beautiful and privileged experience for me.”
In conclusion, he describes the film as, “I would say Border is the soul, and it is coming out in a new body in the shape of Border 2, with a huge coverage of big stars in it.”
Ali, on working with the ensemble cast featuring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, says, “Having stars around me is a beautiful feeling, with a lot of responsibility on me to cope with the delivery. You have to understand the graph of the scene, what’s going on, and why you are there. As I said, I am extremely confident in my acting skills and in the amount of preparation I do for the characters I play. So I go, I act, I deliver, and I enjoy.”
