Sharman Joshi Birthday Special

There are actors who land directly onto the big screens, and there are actors who carry a theatre background with them before stepping into the limelight. Sharman Joshi, one of the most dependable actors of today’s time, belongs to the second category. The Golmaal actor is the son of Arvind Joshi, a veteran of Gujarati theatre, and comes from a family of actors and performing artists.

Happy Birthday Sharman Joshi

In 1999, Joshi made an offbeat debut with the art film Godmother, and in 2001, he first played the son of the iconic star Rekha in Lajja. For Joshi, the year emerged as a game-changer as he landed his first lead role in Style, a film that continues to be remembered in Joshi’s filmography. 2006 proved to be a turning point for the actor.

He played a pivotal role in the cult classic, Rang De Basanti, helmed by director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Having completed two decades, the film continues to remain a standout in his body of work. In the same year, Sharman Joshi served another cult classic with the all-time favourite comedy caper, Golmaal, a film that established him as the OG Laxman and displayed his ability to switch from the intensity of Rang De Basanti to the humour of Golmaal.

In 2007, the actor delivered another two memorable pieces with Life in a Metro and Dhol, films that are strikingly contrasting in genres. These memorable pieces further expanded the acting range of Joshi. 2009 saw him play a notable character in 3 Idiots, another unforgettable title that saw him in the shoes of Raju Rastogi.

Beyond serving cult classics and memorable performances, Sharman Joshi has also acted, produced, and directed stage plays in English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati languages and often finds himself returning to his roots as a theatre performer.

Sharman’s Upcoming Projects

On the current work front, the actor is coming up with the much-anticipated comic caper Golmaal 5, another instalment to Rohit Shetty’s blockbuster franchise. Whether or not the actor will reprise his role as the OG Laxman is yet to be confirmed. However, buzz is rife that the audience will get to see him bring life to the dynamic character!

The film has hit the floors, leaving the audience intrigued about Sharman Joshi’s memorable camaraderie with his co-stars and the fireworks he will ignite when the film hits the big screens.
