National Award-winning director SP Jananathan breathed his last on March 14. As per reports, Jananathan suffered a cardiac arrest today morning. A few days ago the veteran director was found unconscious at his home after which he was rushed to a hospital. Apparently, the filmmaker was working on the editing of his film Laabam. As Jananathan was undergoing treatment at a private hospital he suffered a cardiac arrest earlier today.

The news of the National award-winning director’s death sent a shockwave amongst his fans and leading celebs from the south industry took to their social media handle to offer condolences.

7Cs Entertainment who is one of the producers of Laabam shared the news of SP Jananathan’s death on Twitter. Our director #SPJananathan, sir , who was in a critical condition and was undergoing treatment at the Apollo hospitals, passed away at 10.07 am today morning after suffering a cardiac arrest. May his soul rest in peace (sic).” they tweeted. 

Vijay Sethupathi, who is the lead actor of Laabam, took to his Twitter handle and sharing a picture of the late filmmaker he wrote, “Love you sir (sic).”

“It is with the heaviest Heart that We say good bye to #SPJananathan sir – it was a pleasure working with you sir Thankyou for your wisdom and kind words you will always be in my thoughts ! My deepest condolences to his family,” tweeted Shruti Haasan.

Several other celebs also offered condolences to the late director’s family and friends.

Cinematographer PC Sreeram tweeted, #RIPSPJananathan Your films will remembered as it reflected your conviction towards society. May your soul rest in peace.”

SP Jananathan was one of the most renowned directors of Tamil cinema. He had won the National award for his debut film Iyarkai in 2003. E, Peraanmai and Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai are some of his other popular films. His last film Laabam stars Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan.
