Shaad Ali’s previous directorial titled ‘Kill Dil’ had literally killed us. And now, he is back with ‘OK Jaanu’ which is a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil flick ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’. We all know that Shaad Ali had directed ‘Saathiya’ in 2002 which was a remake of Ratnam’s ‘Alaipayuthey’. The Rani Mukerj and Vivek Oberoi-starrer was loved by everyone and it was great romantic movie. So, does Shaad once again recreate the magic by this remake or not? Let’s find out in our ‘OK Jaanu’ movie review…

‘OK Jaanu’ is about Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Tara (Shraddha Kapoor). The two meet at a friend’s wedding, after that they meet for few more times, and eventually fall in love. They decide to stay in a live-in relationship. After being together for six months, now Adi has to go to LA for his work, and Tara has to leave for Paris for her architecture course. Will they be able to stay away from each other? Will there be a happy or a sad ending for this Adi-Tara love story? Will they choose love over profession? To know all these answers you need to watch ‘OK Jaanu’.

The story written by Mani Ratnam is sweet and subtle. Shaad doesn’t take the film overboard, and thankfully it doesn’t turn into a weep fest. But this does not mean that there no emotional sequences. Ali successfully makes your eyes moist in a couple of sequences and along with that there will also be a smile on your face. The scenes which we are talking about are the ones between Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson. The screenplay too is quite smooth especially in the second half. There are a few scenes in the first half which are a bit drag and are the low point in the film. A couple of times, we were even left with doubts about certain things happening in the film. For example, Tara never tells Adi where her workplace is, still he lands up there. We wonder how!

Well, in a love story, the most important element is the chemistry between the lead pair, and that’s where ‘OK Jaanu’ hits the bull’s eye. The chemistry between Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor is impeccable. We are thinking what made a filmmaker take a long break of four years to get them back on the screen together. They look WOW together, and the romantic sequences between them are natural. And whenever they say OK JAANU in the film, it will melt your heart. As we are talking about chemistry, let’s not forget Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson. Well, actually ‘OK Jaanu’ might be concentrating on Adi and Tara’s love story, but Gopi (Shah) and Charu’s (Samson) sweet romance too steals our hearts.

Aditya Roy Kapur looks hot and girls will be going gaga over him after watching the film. However, he has not just looked good, but has also acted very well. Shraddha Kapoor has never looked so gorgeous in any of her previous films. The actress’ performance is good, but she overdoes it in a few scenes especially when she has to laugh; it looks fake. However, she has managed well in emotional and romantic portions. By the way, her pelvic move in ‘The Humma Song’ is killer. Naseeruddin Shah charms us with his act, but the biggest surprise here is Leela Samson. We wonder what kept her from coming on the big screen. She is fantastic. Prahlad Kakkar and Kitu Gidwani are good in their brief roles. The actors who play Aditya’s brother and sister-in-law are amazing.

The music is composed by AR Rahman, and we won’t be wrong if we say that this film would have not been so good without Rahman’s touch. The music is the best element of the film. From background score to the songs, Rahman makes us feel the romance with his beats. And yes, not to forget Badshah’s recreated version of ‘Humma Humma’. Well, it is surely not better than the original one, but it’s not too bad as well.

Overall, ‘OK Jaanu’ is a perfect dose of romance and emotions. Watch it with your jaanu and even if you don’t watch with your jaanu, we are sure after watching the film you will call your jaanu. For singles, this film might just make you want to fall in love soon.
