Yami Gautam

Actress Yami Gautam has been promoting her upcoming movie ‘Sarkar 3’ and during recent media interactions, she was asked about the fairness cream controversy. So, for those unknown, the actress is referred to as the ‘Fair & Lovely’ girl as she is the brand ambassador of the brand that openly promotes fair skin. In a recent event when Abhay Deol had taken a dig at all the actors who endorse fairness brands, he had included Yami too, along with the likes of Deepika and Sonam. While Sonam retaliated with a tweet of her own, Yami maintained a calm composure on the whole incident. (Also Read: Yami Gautam laughs off rumours of Hrithik Roshan being upset with her)

So, when the actress was questioned about the same, she gave a very sensible answer. Yami said, “I do not comment on anybody’s personal opinions. First of all, I’m also a girl, I’m also self-made, I’m also working hard. It’s my life, it’s my choice. I will not run my career on somebody else’s ideas. Nextly, I see it as an opportunity for a change. The kind of ads which used to run 20 years back, they can’t be run today, they shouldn’t be run today. Despite endorsing this, I’m saying this. If a product has to endorse itself and advertise it’s brand, please go ahead and do it. But, to put down or to underline that if you don’t use this cream or if you are not fair, it’s something to be upset about, then it’s not right. So, I saw this very clearly that I don’t shy away from this question. I think it’s very important and I’m glad something like this is happening. But to try and make a statement is different and to take an action is something else. I’m talking about an action and I’m saying that you can’t tell me to stop. But, yes it’s time for a change and the brands are taking this in consideration and they should take it. They are working on these guidelines where you are free to promote or advertise a product, but to show that if you don’t or if you are not fair and that it’s something to be upset about, then it’s not correct.” [sic]
