Rajinikanth was mistaken for a beggar

Superstar Rajinikanth, the name is enough. He is the megastar and it is not for any reason that his fans worship him. He follows the principle of simple living and high thinking, and is known for his good deeds. His simple ways of living are so evident, that once when the actor, in all his simplicity about him, went to a temple, a woman mistook him for a beggar. Yes, it happened, and we have proof of the same.

In Rajinikanth’s autobiography ‘The Name is Rajinikanth’, this incident has been mentioned. It was in the year 2007, and the superstar had delivered a blockbuster film ‘Sivaji: The Boss’. The film set the cash registers ringing not only in India but also abroad. Looking at the positive response, one day, Rajnikanth suddenly wanted to visit a temple much to the bewilderment of his friend. (Also Read: ‘Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion’: Does the trailer give you feels of Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’?)

The book carries this information that when cautioned that there would be a stampede in the temple, given his immense popularity, the superstar stood his ground, saying he would go in disguise. Reportedly, the actor was dressed in a crumpled shirt and a simple lungi, with a thick brown shawl covering his head. He even wore a dental prosthesis from his kit.

After reaching the temple, in the disguise of an old man and walking with a limp, Rajnikanth went inside the temple where no one took notice of him. However, a middle-aged Gujarati lady approached the actor and handed him a Rs 10 note, taking pity on his appearance. The actor who earned millions was stunned, but politely took the money and stepped into the shrine, the book said.

Further, that same lady saw Rajnikanth offering Rs 100 into the temple hundi and saw him getting into a posh car after offering prayers. Before he was about to leave the venue, the lady stopped him and apologised for her mistake. The woman offered to take back her money but the actor smiled at her and said “Every time, he finds a way to remind me that I am nothing but a mere beggar at his altar. You have just been instrumental in his play act. It’s his way of saying we are nobody in front of him.” [sic]

The superstar left the place keeping that Rs 10 note in his pocket.

Definitely, when it comes to humility, there’s no one who can match Rajinikanth. He is a superstar in true sense, but first, a simple and humble human being.
