SS Rajamouli’s ambitious project Varanasi is undoubtedly of the most anticipated pan-India films. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, the film often makes headlines with regards to its shooting schedules, the time and energy the makers are investing in it and more.

The film has now run into an unexpected hurdle. As per a media report, the team recently requested for 15 lakh litres of water for an important underwater scenes. However, it has reportedly been denied. Read on to know all about the issue.

SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi Shoot Stalled As 15 Lakh Litre Of Water Request Declined?

As per a recent Telangana Today report, representatives of Sri Durga Arts – one of the producers of Varanasi, approached the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and requested 150 water tankers. Each tank in question reportedly hold a massive 10,000 litres of water each.

The letter stated that the water was required to fill a pond for a crucial underwater sequences. Addressed to HMWSSB’s Managing Director K Ashok Reddy, the letter requested that the water be purified to meet the shoot’s quality standards. The production house assured the agency that they would pay tanker charges from the supply point to the shooting location at Gaganpahad. However, the HMWSSB officials have denied the request.

The publication reported that Ashok Reddy told the makers they could not supply the water tankers for Varanasi’s shoot. It further noted that the denial was communicated orally to the film’s team. According to reports, the HMWSSB is currently struggling to meet increased water demand in the city amid a heatwave.

Talking about the underwater scene, Hindustan Times noted that the sequences is currently being shot in Hyderabad. The schedule with continued through May. As per their report, the film’s team is now scrambling to arrange water from other sources.

About The Film

As per reports, SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu as a time-travelling adventurer on the hunt for an ancient artefact from the Ramayana era. Alongside Mahesh, the upcoming actioner – previously known as Globe Trotter, also stars Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. It is scheduled to release in theatres globally in April 2027.

Last year, Rajamouli unveiled the film’s grand first look at a massive event at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The film – which spans continents and eras, will have scenes set in the Treta Yuga, 5000 years ago.
