Trimurti Films has filed a lawsuit against B62 Studios, the producers of Dhurandhar 2, over the unauthorised use of the song Rang De Lal in the film. The lawsuit requests a restraining order to prevent further use of the song, along with damages and other relief. On Wednesday, Trimurti Films initiated legal action against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s company, alleging that B62 Studios used the song Rang De Lal without proper authorisation. The song is a recreated version of Tirchi Topiwale, whose rights are owned by Trimurti.
Trimurti Films Sues Dhurandhar 2 Makers Over Unauthorised Use Of Song Rang De Lal
As reported by Bar and Bench, the dispute centres on the rights to Tirchi Topiwale, originally co-composed by Anand-Milind with lyrics by Sameer Anjaan. The song appeared in the 1989 film Tridev, sung by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee. Trimurti Films claimed that the song, or a substantially similar version, has been used in Dhurandhar 2 without obtaining the necessary licenses or permissions.
They assert ownership and control over the rights to both the musical work and its sound recording. The production company contends that the use of their song constitutes copyright infringement through unauthorised reproduction and public communication.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to stop further use of the track, along with damages and other related remedies. Trimurti also expressed concerns about potential commercial exploitation of the song through the film’s theatrical release, streaming platforms, and promotional activities.
