Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Abhijeet Bhattacharya

The recreated version of the iconic 90s song Chunnari Chunnari from the film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has sparked major conversation online. While the remix featuring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde quickly grabbed attention on social media, it also received criticism from fans and original singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya. Amid the ongoing backlash and legal dispute surrounding the recreated track, composers Akshay Raheja and IP Singh have now reacted to the criticism and defended their version of the song.

Chunnari Chunnari Makers REACT To Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s Criticism

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the duo addressed Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s comments and maintained that they have immense respect for the veteran singer. “He’s a veteran, and there’s only respect for him from our end. I’m sure he has his point of view, he has his experience, and he has reasons to say whatever he’s saying. For us, he is a legend; we have grown up listening to his songs. So, we just hope that sooner or later, he also gives us his blessings because we are kids trying to do something here,” they shared.

Akshay Raheja further explained that musical styles naturally evolve with time and generations, adding that Abhijeet’s reaction comes from his emotional connection to the original track. “He’s a legend. He must be coming from a place because he originally recorded this song. His expression is coming from his experience. Now, obviously, the style of music has changed and evolved. So, it’s completely fine for him to have this view, as everyone has their own thoughts. We have received so much love from Anu Malik ji, Sameer ji, so it can’t get better. We are mostly grateful and focusing on the positives,” he said.

Akshay Raheja, IP Singh React To His Comments

The remix has divided audiences online, with several social media users claiming that classic songs should not be recreated. Many fans also compared the new version to the original Biwi No.1 track featuring Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen and expressed disappointment with the remake.

Reacting to the mixed response, IP Singh said that art remains subjective and every audience reacts differently to recreated music. “Art is subjective. Some people will like it, some people won’t. In the end, we know that we worked on it from our side with our whole hearts. We tried to honour the essence of the song and its nostalgia. After a week maybe, they also start to like it,” he shared.

Akshay Raheja also pointed out that several senior industry figures appreciated the recreated track and trusted the team’s vision. “When we work with so many senior artistes like David ji, Kumar ji, Ramesh ji, there has to be some merit that it is a good song, that’s why it got selected and released,” he added.

About Chunnari Chunnari Controversy

The controversy around Chunnari Chunnari intensified after producer Vashu Bhagnani reportedly filed a Rs 400 crore lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against filmmaker David Dhawan and Tips Industries. Bhagnani, who produced Biwi No.1, alleged that recreated versions of songs, including Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai, were used in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai without his consent.

Meanwhile, Tips Industries defended the recreated tracks and stated that the company owns the relevant music rights associated with the songs. Abhijeet Bhattacharya also criticised the remix and claimed he was not consulted before the recreation. The singer further stated that the original version carried a romantic charm that, according to him, the new rendition failed to recreate.
