Padma Awards 2018: Music composer Ilaiyaraaja receives India’s prestigious civilian honour

The list of recipients of Padma Awards 2018 has been announced. Among 85 eminent personalities  selected by the Home Ministry who have had exceptional contributions in various spheres and fields, legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja is also one.

The man, who has not only created exceptional music throughout decades but has also taken Indian music to a global stature, is being honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s highest civilian award.

Apart from him, the list of recipients also includes names like Shri Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Shri Laxman Pai, Pandit Shyamal Chaturvedi and Shri Vijay Kichlu, to name a few.

“I think that through this award, Prime Minister Modi-led central government is honouring Tamil people and Tamil Nadu,” Illayaraja had earlier stated in January, when his name was announced as one of the recipients.
