Ranveer Singh talks about Padmavati controversy

It seems like there is no end to issues that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team of upcoming film ‘Padmavati’ are facing. Amidst the several controversies around the release of this epic period drama, which has unfortunately been in the news for all the wrong reasons, finally actor Ranveer Singh has expressed his views on this ongoing controversy, and expressed his concerns for his mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Recently, the actor who has previously worked with SLB in ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ gave an exclusive interview to Hindustan Times where he opened up about his character of Sultan Alauddin Khilji and the controversies. While talking about the ongoing controversies, he felt it was a tough situation. He said, “It’s undoubtedly a very tough situation. I am most concerned about Sanjay sir. At this point, for him to go through all of this is extremely difficult considering the amount this man has suffered, sacrificed and (the way he) fought to make this film. What anybody else is going through can’t be compared to what he is experiencing. It’s a difficult situation for him to be embroiled in after the kind of love and sheer effort he has put into the film.” Further, Ranveer said that he stands by his mentor and he will never intentionally hurt sentiments or do anything wrong as he has tremendous respect for Indian culture. (Also Read: Padmavati: This is not the first time Bhansali has a connection with the queen’s tale. He also said, “I am 200 per cent with the film and I stand by it as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I also stand by his vision for the film. He had a vision and has done everything to realise it. Vis-à-vis the film, I can just request the audience and everybody else who have concerns about it to wait and watch the film. One shouldn’t doubt Sanjay sir; he is a magnificent filmmaker and has tremendous respect for Indian culture and an enormous respect for Indian heritage and he will never intentionally hurt sentiments or do anything wrong. He is a good man with good intentions.”

Today, when the movie promotions have become more of a trend, if reports are to believed, it was due to this ongoing current situation that the lead stars were not extensively promoting the same. On being probed if this was a good idea, Ranveer replied, “Yes, the film should be seen first. Anything that we (actors) say isn’t going to subdue this tension. People should give the film a chance; Be patient and they can have healthy debates after they have seen the film. Right now, people are debating over conjectures. I guess the team including Sanjay sir is assessing the situation on an everyday basis and are taking each day as it comes. From what I know, I will be brought out once everybody sees the film and the context is set.”

Talking about the film ‘Padmavati’, it stars Deepika Padukone playing the titular role and Shahid Kapoor playing the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh.

The film is slated to release on December 1.
