Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Actor Gets Interim Relief; SC Exempts Him From Surrendering If He Deposits Rs 5 Cr Today

Supreme Court Grants Rajpal Yadav Interim Relief

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana passed the order after petitions filed by Rajpal and his wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, were orally mentioned by their advocate-on-record Saurabh Trivedi. The court issued notice and listed the matter for September 15, 2026.

“Subject to deposit of Rs.5 crores by the petitioners with the Registry of this Court by tomorrow. They are granted exemption from surrendering,” the Bench ordered. The petitions challenge a July 10 order of the Delhi High Court. It upheld Rajpal Yadav’s conviction in seven cheque bounce cases and sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment in each matter. The Delhi High Court had directed that all seven sentences be served concurrently. It also ordered Rajpal to pay Rs 1.05 crore in each case to the respective complainant. Of this amount, Rs 1,04,75,000 was to be paid as compensation to the complainant. However, Rs 25,000 was to be deposited with the State.

Radha Yadav was separately directed to pay Rs 5,51,380 to the complainant in each of the seven cases. The High Court also noted that Rs 2.25 crore had already been paid. It was released to the complainant during the proceedings. The amount was to be taken into consideration while determining the remaining fine and compensation payable.

About The Case

The cases stem from disputes involving M/s Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. and allegations concerning the dishonour of cheques issued in connection with payments linked to the actor’s production company. While upholding Rajpal’s conviction, the Delhi High Court had granted him two months to approach the Supreme Court against its judgment and suspended his sentence during that period.

The Supreme Court’s latest order now provides the actor interim exemption from surrendering, subject to the Rs 5 crore deposit. The matter will next be heard on September 15, 2026.
