Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Actor’s Rs 9 Cr Lawsuit Adjourned; Hearing To Take Place On February 16th

Actor Rajpal Yadav is currently in Tihar Jail over a cheque bounce case dating back more than a decade, involving the non-repayment of approximately Rs 9 crore borrowed for his film projects. The Delhi High Court was scheduled to hear his bail plea today, but it has now been adjourned till Monday. In 2010, Rajpal had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. However, after the film underperformed at the box office, he failed to repay the amount, leading to legal proceedings.

Rajpal Yadav’s Cheque Bounce Case Adjourned Until Monday

The cheque bounce case of Rajpal Yadav was revisited in court today at 2:30 PM. Rajpal’s lawyer informed the bench, “I tried contacting him, but was unable to reach him. I have filed a bail application, and a response from the other side may be sought. The matter may be adjourned to Monday. I will have more information then.”

Following this, the court adjourned the hearing to Monday and directed the complainant to file a reply to the bail plea. The judge remarked, “While reviewing the case file, we found many details we were unaware of. They have challenged the initial order before the Supreme Court, which did not grant them relief. We will take this up on Monday.”

The conviction was upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019. Rajpal Yadav subsequently appealed to the High Court. In June 2024, the court temporarily suspended his sentence, allowing him to demonstrate “sincere and genuine measures” to settle the dues, which had grown to nearly Rs 9 crore.

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood was among the first to support Rajpal. He offered him his next film and provided an undisclosed signing bonus, encouraging others in the industry to aid him. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also urged industry members to support Rajpal. Several stars, including Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, are reaching out to his family during this difficult time.
