Rani Kapur has revealed that she stays in regular contact with Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor. The estate of Sunjay Kapur remains in the spotlight amid rising legal tensions. The controversy began when Karisma Kapoor’s children moved the Delhi High Court, accusing Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of forging his will. Amid this ongoing legal drama, Rani, Sunjay’s mother, has spoken out, sharing insights into her bond with Karisma and her grandchildren.

In an interview with ANI, Rani opened up about the dispute, reflecting on her relationship with Sunjay. Adding fuel to the controversy, issues surrounding the RK Family Trust have also intensified recently.“She (Priya Kapur) wouldn’t have had the guts to have a dispute (if Sunjay Kapur had been alive today). When Sunjay was alive, she didn’t have the guts to say anything. I was very close to Sunjay. He never went on a holiday without me…He never left me alone…,” Rani stated.
She further clarified that she remains in touch with Sunjay’s children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor. “He was married to two wonderful women, a good family. He has two children from his second wife, whom I see frequently,” she said, offering a glimpse of her relationship with the family.
Rani Admits Being Scared Of Priya Sachdev
Rani also expressed her fears about her safety, claiming she has been living in her Mumbai residence since Sunjay’s death because she is scared of Priya. “I’m scared now. What is she (Priya) going to do to me? I don’t know what she is going to do to get the wealth, and it’s all my husband’s work,” she said.
“It’s very hurtful for me because my husband made this trust and gave everything to me. This girl (Priya) tried to take over everything my husband built all his life,” she added.
Kapur mentioned, “We moved from Bombay to Delhi, we built the house. That house I have built is sitting under a tree. She thinks she’s got it. Luckily, I have this house and I’ve been away from Delhi since my son died.”
What Happened To Sunjay Kapur?
Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar. His first marriage was to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani in 1996, which lasted four years. He married actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003. They welcomed daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. The couple filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalised in 2016. Afterwards, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, and they had a son, Azarias. Sunjay passed away on June 12 last year during a polo match in England.
About The Legal Dispute
A legal battle is ongoing over Sunjay’s estate. In August last year, Priya presented a document to the Delhi High Court claiming it was his will. This was challenged by Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, along with Rani. Karisma also filed a suit against Priya, alleging that Priya had forged Sunjay’s will to exclude their children from inheritance.
In addition to the civil case, Priya Sachdev recently filed a criminal defamation complaint against Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, and another individual. Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother, is also a plaintiff in this legal battle. Recently, Priya, who is a trustee and beneficiary of the RK Family Trust, issued a notice removing Rani as a trustee effective from March 25, 2026.
