Swara Bhasker expressed confusion upon hearing about the AI-altered re-release of Raanjhanaa. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, she acknowledged that director Aanand L. Rai was upset, emphasising the emotional purity of the original film. She stressed the importance of ethical use and regulation of AI, warning that without strong moral boundaries. Swara Bhasker REACTS To Producers Altering Raanjhanaa Ending Using AI

When asked if she has seen Raanjhanaa’s re-release with AI changing the ending, Swara Bhasker said, “Mujhe tag kiya tha logon ne, toh mereko toh samajh hi nahi aaya pehle ki yeh hua kya? Like, possible kaise hai?”

She added that the director Aanand L Rai was upset. Swara said, “Obviously upset the yaar. Kaun maker khush hoga aisi cheez se aur khaas karke Raanjhanaa jaise film ke saath, jo itna pure emotion wali film hai.”

Swara Bhasker On Using AI In Filmmaking

Speaking of, if using AI in movies and filmmaking should be implemented, the actress responded, “I mean, I know ki Raanjhanaa ki bahut ninda hui thi politics, stalking aur yeh sab ke liye lekin uska emotion bahut pure tha. I think usmein koi doubt nahi karega. Dekhiye, wahi baat jo main keh rahi thi aapko, technology ek aisa cheez hai na, jaise kehte hain na, jab Ganga ji aayi thi toh unki dhaar ko koi rok nahi sakta tha. Isiliye Bhagwan Shiv ko unhe apni jata mein rakhna pada tha. Toh technology bhi ek aisi Ganga hai, jisko aap rok nahi sakte, uske pragati ko. Aur yeh itna powerful tool hai, par utna hi dangerous tool bhi hai, kyunki uski apni koi naitikta nahi hoti.”

She concluded, “Aap dekh sakte ho, AI ka istemaal aap medical research mein bhi kar sakte ho, logon ki zindagi bachane ke liye bhi, naye scientific discoveries ke liye bhi, aur time-saving tasks ke liye bhi. Lekin wahi AI ka use aaj Gaza mein narshar (mass killing) ke liye bhi ho raha hai bachchon tak ko maarne ke liye. Toh technology ki apni naitikta nahi hoti. Joh bhi uss technology ko use kar raha hai, usko apni naitikta strong rakhni chahiye, aur sachche tareeke se use karna chahiye.”

The actress added, “Use regulate karna chahiye, control karna chahiye. Agar aap usko sirf profit ke liye use karoge, toh of course bura hi hoga. There is no doubt about that. So that’s really what I think about AI. I mean, I’m not very technologically inclined, I don’t use ChatGPT, I don’t know about it. I’m still on Google, searching ‘What is the meaning of this word?'”

What Was The Controversy?

The re-release of the film Raanjhanaa featured an AI-generated happy ending, replacing the original tragic conclusion where Kundan dies. This change, made without the director Anand L. Rai and lead Dhanush’s consent, sparked anger and controversy. Dhanush criticised the alteration, saying it “stripped the film of its soul,” while Rai called it a betrayal. Both are considering legal action. The incident has ignited a debate about the ethics of using AI to modify artistic works without creators’ approval.
