Did you know? Nawazuddin Siddiqui wasn’t the first choice to play Bal Thackeray
In ‘Thackeray‘ Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the role of Shiv Sena supremo late Bal Thackeray. After watching the film, people are saying that no one could have played the role of the political leader Balasaheb Thackeray as perfect as Nawazuddin Siddiqui did. But, you may not know that this role was actually first offered to Irrfan Khan.
When the producer of the film and Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut approached Irrfan Khan, he was busy with other projects and had said that he could only consider it after two or three months. So due to his unavailability, Irrfan couldn’t take up this biopic.
Revealing more information, casting director Rohan Mapuskar told Mid-day, “Director Abhijit Panse, Sanjay Raut and I were brainstorming on who we’d like to cast and were contemplating [roping in] Irrfan. We had his image to see if it matched that of Mr Thackeray, and were convinced.” He further shared, “Irrfan, who was busy with another film, said he could only consider it after two or three months.”
Coming back to Nawazuddin, he perfectly essayed the political leader on the silver screens. ‘Thackeray’ released today and has received good reviews so far.
