2025 has been an impressive year when we take into account the kind of cinema we have witness both on the big screen and on OTT apps. Two of the biggest theatrical this year – without a slither of doubt, are Vicky Kaushal-led Chhavva and Ranveer Singh’s espionage thriller Dhurandhar. Both films managed to collected over Rs 800 crore at the global box office (Aditya Dhar’s film still continues to rake in the moolah), leading many to question if nationalism-themed stories or patriotic film are becoming a guaranteed recipe for commercial success.

During a recent media interaction, Vicky addressed these speculation with a response that sure to make his fans stand up and clap for him. Read on to know what he said.

Vicky Kaushal On Patriotism Guaranteeing Monetary Success

During an interaction with NDTV, Vicky Kaushal spoke up about people’s perception regarding patriotism guaranteeing a film’s monetary success. Addressing the claim, the ‘Chhaava’ actor said, “I think patriotism can’t be a formula and saying it is a formula is an insult to the emotion. Patriotism is our truth, which we will keep showing through our movies, literature and sports.”

According to him, patriotic storytelling allows creators to express admiration for the country. Noting that the intent behind such films goes beyond commercial ambition, ‘Uri’ actor continued, “This is the way we can put our foot in the door and say that we are proud of the diversity, legacy and the truth of our country. I am so proud that I am a little part of this big moment where we are fearlessly representing India on a global map.”

About Chhaava & Dhurandhar

Vicky Kaushal-led Chhaava is a historical action drama that chronicles the life of Sambhaji, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire. Kaushal played the titular role, with Rashmika Mandanna as his wife, Yesubai Bhonsale and Akshaye Khanna as the antagonist, Mughal Emperor Aurangze. An adaptation of Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel Chhava, the project is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.

Chhaava achieved significant commercial success with a worldwide gross collection of Rs 807.91 crore. It became the third- highest-grossing Indian film and the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, and is currently part of the Top 10 highest grossing Indian films of all-time.

Talking about Dhurandhar, the action spy thriller is written and directed by Aditya Dhar. The espionage thriller is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya and Lokesh Dhar under the banners Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film features some of Bollywood’s finest stars, including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and debutant Sara Arjun in pivotal parts. In just 17 days, the film grossed over Rs 845 crore at the worldwide box office. As per trend reports, the film is expected to cross the Rs 1000- crore benchmark soon.
