When Vicky Kaushal made his big screen debut in 2015 with Masaan, people recognised the great potential in him. While he kept on giving some critically appreciated projects one after the other post that, it was the 2019 release, Uri: The Surgical Strike that established him as a leading man who can bring in both critical and commercial success. He even won his first National Award for the same and then he followed that with another scintillating performance last year in Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham and today it marks one year to its release.

Sardar Udham saw Vicky Kaushal bring to life the real-life character of the eponymous freedom fighter on screen, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar, and the actor did that quite effectively. He proved that Uri’s success wasn’t just a coincidence and Sardar Udham touched the hearts of everyone across the nation. The film brought in many laurels and was even in consideration for being India’s official entry at the Oscars. Due to the uncertainty at the box office as well as partial closure of theatres across the nation, the film was released on Amazon Prime Video and became a sensation overnight.
